Fat Tuesday

Yes, I know it’s not not Fat Tuesday on the calendar. But I have decided that it’s Fat Tuesday on my blog, every Tuesday that I’m still fat. May there be as few as possible! I have no idea how many overweight people are reading this. But since most readers are in the U.S., the percentage is probably (unfortunately) pretty high. Please don’t take this personally. My goal and concerns are for myself, and not meant to make anyone feel bad. I have personally been struggling with my weight for many years now. And I really feel like this is it. I need to get this monster taken care of. No matter what you weigh, if you are healthy and feel good, then it doesn’t really matter. But I DON’T feel great and even though I’m fairly healthy now, good health will most probably not continue with so much extra weight.

Those of you who are Type A out there are probably bewildered as why I haven’t kicked fat’s butt before now. Those of you who are procrastinators like me, probably get it. The funny thing is that I am pretty vain. Being a vain, fat person is very interesting, but I wouldn’t recommend it. 😉

In 2009, I lost about 25 pounds. In 2010, I gained 10 of those back. And I really need to lose around 40 pounds. I will not be posting my weight. Just know that I have to shop in the short people department, so I don’t have a bunch of height to disguise the extra pounds. It ain’t pretty.

This is not a New Year’s Resolution. This is a challenge and a forming of long term habits. My challenge to myself and to you is to work out for at least 25 minutes, six of the next seven days. See you next Fat Tuesday!

N, those boot camps in the area are a great way to get your “fat butt kicked.” I would love to join you, as I am at a better weight now to get going (would result in less injury) but alas I am pregnant again. So much for me “kicking my fat butt.” I pray your weight loss goals go well!

You are describing me last fall, and I’m here to let you know that it can be done. Make exercise (for me, 45 minutes at least) a part of every day. I went to Zumba twice a week, Pilates once, and ran on the days off from those classes. The classes are very encouraging because you’re with other people, not just heading out for another solo run, which is cleansing in its own way, but can get lonely and boring. If you hate Zumba, do something else in a class format, because it does hold you accountable. I set up ride-sharing with a neighbor so that we would both feel like losers if we bailed out. The results? Travis was so proud of me that he sent me for five days over Christmas break to hang out with my family in MD and took care of all four kids while they were home from school. Yeah, baby.

Light weigh, light weigh, light weigh:) I have been doing this again, and the lbs. are coming off ever so slowly, but, they are coming off. My goal is to get on the treadmill as well, hopefully 3 times a week. Wish we lived closer!

    • I know she’s a nice lady but… Never mind, I’m going to try and be nicer this year. 🙂 I wish we lived closer, too. I know you would keep me on track!

You really shouldn’t knock it until you try it. It is not about the “nice” lady at all! And let me tell you, losing weight by watching your food intake is a lot easier than busting your arse on the elliptical and treadmill everyday…and much better for our spiritual lives as well:))) Really, you should consider it.

      • Okay, I will look into it again. I have been writing all of my food down. 🙂

  5. Good luck! I need to get my butt back in gear too, but it’s cold here in Canada, so no running for me for a while!

    • Thanks! I’m such a wimp that I’m using the ellyptical inside even though it’s 55 today. I clearly need a reality check about the weather!

Girl, you know that if it’s January, my butt is at weight watchers. Again. We’ll see how week one went on Saturday…
    Good luck.

  7. *sigh*

I gained way more than 10 pounds last year.

And stopped running when I got sick in November and haven’t gotten my arse back in gear yet.

    Soon…

    Or I’ll be barrel shaped.

  8. Nic,

I feel like giving you a hug! I feel proud of you. It’s so amazing how you open yourself up here and I feel that you’re a great person because you’re always so sincere.

I ate too much during Christmas and I feel like an short OTTOMAN lately! Not a pretty picture! LOL The thing is, I can’t get chubby because I’m very petite (a cute word for short) and I know that I need to slow down with all the treats.

All I have to say is: YES! WE ALL SHOULD TAKE CARE OF OUR HEALTH, but we also should stop comparing ourselves with the hot girl on tv, in the supermarket, or whatever. We are built differently. I can toned my legs, but they can’t grow and become huge like Gisele’s. I will die short. I will live my whole life with this petite body. Yes, weight can be changed, and I support anybody that wants to exercise and eat healthier, but we should always remember to truly love our shape because we need to accept it. I’m saying shape, not fat, because that isn’t good for you. But remember to see who you truly are. How comfortable you feel and go from that. Don’t feel pressured because that usually doesn’t make a lifetime change, that can help just for a short period of time. But if you really want to be healthier and eventually, loose some extra weight, remember to do it calmly. We can get there.:-)
