At The Beach

We finally did the gallery wall in the blue living room. Is that even the right thing to call it? Collage wall? Crap! Wall O Pictures – that’s it and I’m stickin to it!

close up

All the pictures are from recent trips. Prints purchased in Florida and Hawaii. Photos taken in those same places by the husband. We are still contemplating putting another piece above the lamp. Lamp purchased at High Street Market. Console from West Elm.

Here is a wider shot, so you can see it in a bit of context. Isn’t Mr. Bingley cute? 🙂

I’m still waiting for the fabric swatch that I think is going to work for curtains. I’m getting anxious because it is supposed to ship today. I am also waiting on two ottomans that will go under the console table. They will probably help to hide the lamp cord. Have you ever tried to hang a grid of pictures? Did your husband cuss a lot? I’m not necessarily saying that mine did. I’m just wondering. 😉

Slowly But Surely

What’s up?! I haven’t updated the ole blog in over a week. We had a really busy holiday weekend. Hope you had a good one. I put the husband to work last week when my tables finally came in, and I’ve been trying to accessorize. The pillow situation is fluid and ever changing. The rolls of fabric you will see in the second picture will have a definite effect on that. Please ignore the missing mirror to the left of the fireplace. I can’t find anyone to fix it. If you have any ideas of where to get a fake antique mirror fixed, please share!

I love my new tables!

The ever changing fabric and picture situation.

Those pictures on the ground will eventually go on the wall above the white parsons table, which you can see peeking into the right side of the picture. The curtain situation is at a stand still, while I await the delivery of a fabric swatch that I have once again convinced myself could be “the one”. By the end of this curtain saga I will be able to write an entire book about how online fabric shopping can make you manic. 😉

Fat Tuesday Volume XV: A List Of Excuses

What’s up? It’s after 2:00 on Tuesday and this is the first time I have logged into my blog this week. I am still fat and I know the reason why: FOOD! I will soon be starting a boring and bland routine of lean meats, vegetables and fruit. I am no longer able to fool myself into thinking I can eat moderate amounts of whatever I want and still lose weight as long as I exercise.

Here are my excuses for being an absentee blogger:
1. I went to Houston.

This sweetie had to be baptized.

This cutie was there, too. Don't be fooled by the sweet smile, she's two!

Sadly, this is the best picture I have taken in ages. (That's my mom in the background!)

2. I went to Austin to go wedding dress shopping with my sister. Except, she found a dress in Houston the day before. I know! Right?! I did have a great time with my mom and my sister. And we found a great suit for my mom to wear to the wedding.

3. My sick dog and my wimpy dog have been making it difficult to sleep through the night. Last night was the first night in over a week that I have been home and not awakened in the middle of the night by either sick dog or wimpy dog. Wimpy dog doesn’t like thunder storms. I’m hoping last night becomes the norm.

4. I’m cleaning my house like crazy because my friend is coming to visit! She told me not to, but I totally am anyway. It will be so pathetic if I don’t get done. But at least I will have the excuse that she told me not to. 😉

A positive development:
My art is no longer being held hostage at Aaron Brothers!

They're ALL done!

If I’m brave enough, I’ll post before and afters of my closet tomorrow. That’s a big if. Although, the closet doesn’t look as bad as the bedroom. I definitely won’t post any pics of the bedroom. Total disaster area!

A Cautionary Tale

Over the last couple of years, I have purchased/received as gifts four prints by the artist, Dan-ah Kim. I have been wanting to frame them for quite some time. In February, I saw a 50% off coupon in the paper for Aaron Brothers. Aaron Brothers is a chain whose corporate headquarters is in our state. I have never had any custom framing done there before, because 1. I like my locally owned frame shop that I have used forever, and 2. When I priced Aaron Brothers many years ago, they were outrageously expensive for custom framing.

I still like my locally owned shop, but it’s located in my old town, so it’s a hike to get there. It turns out that Aaron Brothers is still crazy expensive. The total for the four pieces, with museum glass and double fabric mats was $500. That’s right, five hundred smackeroos! And that’s with the 50% off coupon. Luckily, my father was with me and he paid half as an early birthday present (thanks Dad!). Also, I had saved money for projects and this was one of them. So what I’m saying is that I had the cash. But still it was a shocking total.

Even though they told me two weeks at the outside, it took almost three. Then when I went to pick them up, the corners of every single mat, that’s eight mats and 32 corners, all had frayed fabric sticking out of them. So I left them there to be re-done. When I went back over a week later, one of the cream colored mats had a stain on it. So I had to leave it there to be re-done again. At this point, the manager on duty does a very smart thing and refunds my money for that picture (without my even having to ask!). They have now had it again for almost two weeks and haven’t fixed it because this mat is out of stock. And the people in the store have no idea when it will be back in stock. The lady I spoke with yesterday asked me if I wanted to change to a different mat. But that means changing the other three as well. I told her that if they don’t have it in a couple of weeks, that we need to talk about them changing all four and not at my expense. She looked dubious to say the least.

I don’t think I’m off base here. If their framer had not done such a crap ass job the first time around, he wouldn’t have had to re-do them and thus use up all the supply of that mat. And what about him turning in the finished product for the second time with a big stain on it? Seriously?

Everyone in the store has been very polite and helpful. I realize that they have no control over this, and the person who refunded my money is certainly on the ball when it comes to customer service. They keep insisting that stuff like this “NEVER” happens. But I am finding it harder and harder to believe. The lady I spoke with yesterday said she would try and find out the expected in stock date, and would let me know. I’m not holding my breath…

Here is what I believe to be the moral of my tale: If you have found a business whose services you are happy with, don’t try another. It’s not worth it.
